What side of the road do you drive in australia | Driving
on the left side of the road in Australia
Which side of the road do Australia drive on?
Australians drive on the left side of the road and vehicles have
the steering wheel on their right side
Most countries which were British colonies still drive on the
left hand side of the road including huge land masses such as India,
Australia and Southern Africa as well as the Caribbean. Europe generally
drives on the right hand side apart from the United Kingdom, Ireland,
Malta and Cyprus.
Accidents happen when you fall asleep at the wheel, or just not
concentrating on the road and any possible oncoming traffic or wildlife.
Australians drive on the left side of the road and vehicles have
the steering wheel on their right side. (reverse to the USA)
Drivers in Australia require a valid driver's licence. You can
drive with a foreign (English language) licence for three months.
If your licence is not in English, you need to get an International
Driving Permit from the Automobile Association in your home country
before coming to Australia. If your hiring a 4wd camper or renting
a motoprhome then you should chek the drivers licence requirement.
Why do Australians drive on the other side of the road?
In the past, almost everybody travelled on the left side of the
road because that was the most sensible option for feudal, violent
societies. Since most people are right-handed, swordsmen preferred
to keep to the left in order to have their right arm nearer to an
opponent and their scabbard further from him.
